Join us Sunday, December 15th for a dialog with Marianne Williamson entitled “The Spiritual IS Political—Why I’m Running for Congress”.
Marianne Williamson is not just a huge best-selling author (of many books, including the classic, Return to Love) but also a global presence, an internationally recognized teacher who has been helping people transform their lives for many years now. She’s also a committed participant in our American democracy and has been a passionate political activist for many years now.
You have probably been inspired by this oft-quoted passage from Return to Love (often misattributed to the remarkable Nelson Mandela):
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
I took notice when Marianne recently announced her candidacy for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from California’s Congressional District 33. Even though she’s no stranger to politics (she’s one of the creators of a proposal for a Department of Peace and produced SISTER GIANT, a conference galvanizing women to a higher level of contribution and efficacy as activists and candidates), this is Marianne’s first bid to run for public office. And on Sunday we’ll have the opportunity to hear her firsthand. We’ll not only hear about her campaign, but we’ll also hear her revolutionary vision for conscious politics in America.
Marianne points out that we are now experiencing a crisis of democracy in the U.S. We have a corrupt system, one that has lost its “ethical center” and places economic values before human values. And this economic orientation has a paralyzing stranglehold on American politics, Democrats and Republicans alike. Marianne feels that an “unfiltered” voice, outside the calcified forms of our two party systems is what is needed to begin a new kind of healing conversation in American politics. This is why she is running as an independent.
“From child poverty to mass incarceration to the corruption of our food supply to more enlightened peace-building measures—and, most particularly, to our need to counter the assault on our democracy through gerrymandering and the undue influence of money on our politics—I bring a new set of priorities and new energy with which to express them” says Marianne. I’m excited we’ll get a chance to hear her express the spiritual foundations of her political commitment, and her vision for her candidacy for the U.S. Congress.
I’m honored to have Marianne on the show at this pivotal moment in American politics. I hope you’ll tune in and be a part of it as well!
