Join us Sunday, May 27th for “Seeing Deeply: How Vision Can Empower Our Evolution” with Alex Grey

Please join us Sunday, May 27th at 10:00 AM Pacific, for a conversation with Alex Grey entitled “Seeing Deeply: How Vision Can Empower Our Evolution.”

According to Ken Wilber, Alex Grey might be “the most significant artist alive.” He is a renowned visionary and spiritual artist and author of numerous books. He is also a luminous mystic who offers a penetrating transmission when he speaks, guiding us into that same ecstatic apprehension of the multi-dimensional richness of being that he evokes so beautifully in his artwork. His paintings exquisitely render the interdependent linkages between our spiritual, energetic and physical selves. The result is visually arresting, heart-opening and worshipful.

In my teachings, I encourage people to feel into the totality of the body-mind’s dimensions, using our full capacities, noticing the subtle information fields that give rise to gross experience. This is why one of the things I deeply appreciate about Alex’s art is that it serves as an inspiration for an illumined kinesthesia wherein we are invited to feel into the subtle capacities of our body-minds. Alex’s art is a valuable instruction to people learning to awaken their yogic second-sight. He has been a true pioneer in this regard and to experience the visual splendor of his work is to open oneself up to a subtle contemplative transformation.

Another of Alex’s qualities that I appreciate is the spirit he expresses as a human being. He is at once sincere, playful, and iconoclastic. He is able to be totally present and intelligent, balanced and serious—and yet simultaneously he is entirely childlike, pure, guileless, humble and innocent.

This free and playful quality shows up in Alex’s connection to the international festival culture. This community is often associated with psychedelics, entheogens, and visionary art and is some ways could be viewed as countercultural or “tripped out.” However, it also offers a standing opportunity to “re-enter the garden.” I view this as a kind of a healthy move in culture to renew and invigorate the transcendental dimensions of our own bodies and minds; and Alex Grey is at the cutting edge of this renewal.

About Alex Grey:

Alex Grey is a renowned visionary and spiritual artist and author of The Mission of Art. In his foreword to “The Mission of Art”, Ken Wilber stated: “Alex Grey might be the most significant artist alive.” Alex is best known for his paintings which portray multiple dimensions of reality, interweaving biological anatomy with psychic and spiritual energies. His visual meditation on the nature of life and consciousness, the subject of his art, is contained in five books. His two monographs, “Sacred Mirrors” and “Transfigurations”, follow the history of his artistic life. The Mission of Art and Art Psalms reflect on art as a spiritual practice. The book, CoSM, co-authored with his wife, the visionary artist, Allyson Grey, provides a guided tour of the New York City installation of the Sacred Mirrors collection. Alex’s world-renowned career includes exhibitions and keynote addresses from Basel to Tokyo to Sao Paulo, and features on the Discovery Channel, the CBC, in Newsweek and Time Magazines. His art has been used on albums for the multi-platinum bands Nirvana, Beastie Boys, Tool, and String Cheese Incident. Alex’s most outstanding and widely appreciated works of transformative art were exhibited for five years in the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in New York City.
